Counselling FAQs

The Carers Grants Project provides financial support to unpaid carers for essential items or services that improve wellbeing and make caring easier. Grants are funded by local and national charitable organisations.

Who offers counselling?

Camden Carers Counselling service is made up of qualified and trainee counsellors.
All counsellors work within the ethical framework set out by the BACP.
All counsellors attend regular required meetings to ensure high quality work is being completed

How many sessions can I have?

We typically offer 6 or 9 counselling sessions, depending on need and attendance.
Sessions are offered weekly at the same time each week and we can replace one missed session if we are informed beforehand.

What is the wait time for counselling?

The wait time for counselling varies depending on demand but is, on average, around 3 – 4 months.

Where can I receive counselling sessions?

We offer counselling in two ways - face to face at the Greenwood Centre or on Zoom video calls.
Zoom sessions must be taken in a private, quiet indoor space.

What model of counselling do you offer?

We offer psychodynamic, person centred and integrative counselling.

I have been referred for counselling, what happens next?

Once you have been referred for counselling, you will receive a call from the Counselling Coordinator to complete an assessment. This is a 30-45 minute call to make sure our counselling service is the best fit for you. Our counselling service is aimed at supporting you with challenges relating to your caring role.

If it is felt that we are not the right service, we will signpost you to a service that is more suitable.

Are my sessions confidential?

Yes, what you say in your counselling sessions is confidential.
However, if the counsellor believes that you are at risk, any concerns will need to be raised with the Counselling Coordinator and/or senior management, as per our safeguarding policy.

What times can I access counselling sessions?

The counselling service operates at the following times:

Face-to-Face Sessions

  • Monday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

  • Tuesday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

My sessions are coming to end; how can I request more?

Please speak with your counsellor about the reason for needing extra sessions. This will be passed onto the Counselling Coordinator who will review requests on a case-by-case basis.

I’ve had counselling with Camden Carers before, can I have it again?

Yes, once counselling is completed, you can be referred again after one year.

I’m having counselling sessions elsewhere, can I access counselling with Camden Carers at the same time?

We are not able to offer counselling if you are actively in counselling elsewhere.
